At first GN Solids Control designed the 30 inch rotating bowl decanter centrifuge to meet the needs of Tunnel Boring Machine drilling as well as Soil Remediation. With the increasing inquires, GN Solids Control 30 inch decanter centrifuges can also be used in HDD drilling.
It well known that solids control equipment such as shale shakers, desanders or desilters are usually used for the HDD mud treating. GN shale shaker is mainly used to separate the solids larger than 100 microns, while desander fixed with 10 inch hydro cyclones are used to separated out solids larger than 50 microns, and the desilter fixed with 4 inch hydro cyclones are used separated out solids above 25 microns. The after treated mud can be reused and pump into the HDD rig for drilling. Before, there was several HDD drilling companies use decanter centrifuge as they thought solids smaller than 25 microns can be ignored. However, according to the recent surveys, it is these smaller size solids that much more harmful for the HDD drilling rig. Just take one example in Australia: one of GN Solids customers is only use GN shale shaker and GN desilter in the mud treating system. After we recommend to use on decanter centrifuge, they found the drilling efficiency has increased 20 ~30%. And the former push back problems of the HDD rig have never happened after the centrifuge is used.
GN Centrifuge is especially used to separated our solids large than 2 microns. The former working method just use shaker and hydro cyclones need to be revaluated. It’s trend to use decanter centrifuge in HDD drilling.

GN Oily Sludge Treating System

In the past years, GN Solids Control has received many inquiries on the oily sludge treating systems. GN Solids has been providing various solids control and waste management for the oil and gas drilling cuttings treating, while as more and more companies pay attention to the environment protection, there are increasing demands on the oily sludge treating systems.
GN Solids Control just provided several sets oily sludge treating systems for Europe and Middle East customers. Those sludge treating systems are mainly customized to be used in the particular work site.v
In this oily sludge treating system, the main products are as including show:
1. Premixing and Heating Tank
As most of the cuttings have a large viscosity, one premixing an heating tank is pretty necessary. All the sludge will be heated in order to run smoothly.
2. Shaker Tank
Shaker is used as the first step separation equipment. All the large solids will be separated out by the shaker first. In order to keep the large solids fall off to the tank bottom, there are 2 mud agitators are on the shaker tanks.
3. Centrifuge Tank
GN centrifuge is the second phase treating equipment, finer solids will be treated from the slurry that treated by shaker.
4. 3-Phase Separation System
GN 3-phase separation system is used to separate out the finer solids, while the oil and water are further treated by oil and gas separator. Two separated oil tank and water tank will be used to collect oil and water.
5. Chemical Dosing Unit
GN Chemical Dosing Unit is used to mixing the chemicals before feeding into decanter centrifuge. Flocculent is used to gather finer solids, so decanter centrifuge can separate out those finer solids.
Level meters are fixed in the mud tanks in order to keep the mud from leaking. Hot sensors are also used to keep the screw pumps from rotating when there is no mud inside.

Repeat Orders of 3 Sets Compact Mud Systems

GN Solids Control manufactures various mud treating systems for different industries. Recently, GN Solids Control has received one repeat order of 3 sets piling mud systems for one Southeast Asian Customer.
GN Solids Control manufactures compact mud systems include: 200 GPM, 350 GPM, 500 GPM and 1000 GPM, some other treating systems are also can be tailored to meet customer’s demands.
GN Solids Control has provided hundreds of compact mud systems for Piling, TBM areas. These three systems will be used for the piling projects in Southeast Asian area.
GN Solids Control engineers design and manufacture compact mud systems in order to use in the narrow working sites. Most of the GN mud systems are includes the following parts:
1. GN Desander or Desilter
Depend on the treating capacity; GN Solids assembles different desanders (10 inch cyclones) or desilters (4 inch cyclones).
Slurry is treated by the cyclones first; overflow slurry is send to the bottom tank. GN cyclones are made of polyurethane, which can be used for a long time without any wear. GN manufactures replacement cyclones for Derrick ones, now GN Houston facility has some cyclones in stock and some customers keep using GN cyclones.
2. GN Bottom Shaker
Bottom shaker is used to treat the slurry discharged from the cyclones nipples. Here most of the large solids fall off to the bottom shaker. Solids larger than 100 microns are eliminated by the shaker.
GN Solids Control manufactures small size shaker in order to have a compact structure. When transporting by sea if in one standard container, shaker needs to be disassembled from the mud tank. When it arrives in customers worksites, they don’t need to disassemble the shaker among different work sites.
3. GN Mud Tank
Those above cyclones and shaker are assembled on the mud tank. And one centrifugal pump is fixed on the tank skid to provide slurry into the cyclones.

GN Tank Cleaning System

GN Solids Control has been designed and manufactured various solids control and drilling waste management systems. As customer’s demands keep changing, more and more strict rules for waste or slurry management are arising which need equipment that is more professional. Today, we would like to introduce one set of tank cleaning system that is used to provide recycled clear water to clean the oil tank, slurry tank or chemical tank etc.
GN Automatic Tank Cleaning System (GNTC-30B) is one continuous cleaning system: clear water tank volume is 7.5m3 and slurry treating capacity is 30m3/h. This is one compact designed system which is 3500mm (length), 2800(width) and 3200 (height).

1. Centrifuge pump suck clear water from the triangle tank and feed to the high pressure washing device. The high pressure washing device clean the inside tank.
2. Cuttings pump feed the after washed slurry into GN 4 inch desilter cyclones. One filter device is assembled between the cuttings pump and the tank so most of the large solids can be filtered.
3. GN 4 inch cyclone separates the finer particles which are pumped to one cuttings box. While the liquid discharged from the cyclone is feed into one slant clarifier.
4. Slant clarifier is fixed with many pieces of thin metal plate with a certain angle. By using gravity, there are some solids fall off to the tank bottom and will be transported by a small screw conveyor. And the overflow water is relative clean which can be used in the high pressure washing system.
By using GN tank cleaning system, customers will be able to save large volume of water when clean tanks. This system is especially suitable for the offshore tank cleaning due to the pretty compact structure. GN Solids Control provides explosion proof motors and electrical components on this tank cleaning system. DNV certification can also be provided.

GN Solids Control just developed one set of automatic Tank Cleaning System which can be used to treating the oil tank bottom sludge continuously. Now there have been several sets are used in the worksites.
GN Tank Cleaning System treating capacity is 30m3/h, it mainly includes the following two parts:
1. GN Surge Tank
GN Surge Tank stocks the water up to 7.5 m3/h. Water is pumped to the tank by one centrifugal pump, it’s used to clean the tank bottom under high pressure as those sludge need to be washed and diluted before feeding into the desilter cyclones.

GN Cuttings Pump is used to feed into the desilter cyclones. There are 6 sets desilter cyclones assembled on the top of the tank. As we know, the desilter cyclones are take advantage of the gravity to separate out large solids in the sludge.
2. GN Slant Treating Equipment

The after treated sludge is feed into the slant clarifier which is assembled with many pieces of stainless steel lamella plate. GN Slant Treating Equipment is especially designed to remove solids from waste slurry. Those lamella plates have the same angle of 55 degree with the horizontal line.
Water is discharged from the outlet on the upper part. While one set of screw conveyor is fixed on the triangle tank bottom, it’s used to transfer those thick particles.
GN Tank Treating Systems are easy maintenance and operating. As the main equipment in this system, GN Slant Treating is designed into a pretty compact structure which can be moved among different worksites as well.
GN Solids Control also provide dosing unit for better separation together with GN Tank System. Chemicals or flocculent can be added automatically before sending to GN treating equipment. All those flocculent systems can be put in one standard container for fast moving.

GN oil slurry treating systems are mainly used on treating thick oil slurry such as bottom oil tank slurry, refinery slurry etc. By using GN oil slurry system, solids, oil and water can be separated into different parts.
GN oil slurry treating plant is mainly including the following GN equipment:
1. GN Shaker Tank
By using one GN vacuum pump, the oil slurry can be transferred to the shaker tank. GN shale shaker separates the solids larger than 100 microns, coarse solids are collected by a catching tank below the shaker.
In order to keep the separated slurry from sediment, GN mud agitators are also fixed on the shaker tank and kept rotating.
2. GN Centrifuge Tank
The after treated slurry is added and mixed with different Acid or Alkali in order to have the proper value. Polymer and chemicals are added into the decanter centrifuge tank, so the finer solids can be separated out by GN decanter centrifuge.
In order to keep the thick slurry running well, GN shaker tank and GN centrifuge tank are also assembled with heating lines.
3. GN Slant Clarifer
GN slant clarifier is especially designed to separate small solids in the oil and water by gravity. Many pieces of slope metals are assembled inside to help separate. This is the first separation phase for oil and water.
4. Oil &Water Separator
GN oil and water and separator is used to separate oil and water separately. There is one oil surge tank and water surge tank fixed after the oil and water separator, they are used to feed the water and oil into the afterwards oil tank and water tank separately.

Recently, GN Solids Control has received many inquiries on the dredging slurry treating. In the past, GN Solids provided many slurry treating systems with shakers, desanders and desilters. As we know GN desilters are assembled with 4 inch cyclones, they can separate the solids larger than 25 microns. While some other customers have higher demands on the slurry particles, GN Solids Control recommends using decanter centrifuge with flocculent system.
Generally speaking, typical dredging slurry includes 5~20% solids, 0~70% coarse debris (usually larger then 6mm),10~100% sands (diameter is around 0.07~6mm) and finer particles like clays or silts or organics 0~100% (diameter is less than 0.07mm). In order to separate out those finer solids, GN centrifuge is a necessary choice.
Let’s take one GN 350GPM treating system as an example:
1. Double deck shaker
GN double deck shaker is using opening mesh screen on the top deck to separate the large materials out, while the bottom deck shaker is using common composite API shaker screens.
2. Desander
One GN 10 inch desander cyclone is used after the double deck shaker. Desander cyclone to separate the solids larger than 55 microns. One centrifugal pump is also fixed on the tank to feed the cyclone.
3. Flocculent System
GN flocculent system has a compact structure, all the devices are put in one 20ft standard container. Flocculent will be mixed thoroughly with the slurry separated from desander, those slurry is feed into the GN centrifuge by GN screw pump.
4. Decanter Centrifuge
Two sets GN decanter centrifuge GNLW453 are used for treating finer solids. As the flocculent system helps to collect all those finer solids and get larger, they will be easily separated out by GN centrifuge. Due to the increasing of the gravity, the solids percentage is getting bigger, so centrifuge actual working capacity is around 350GPM.

As we all know, 2016 OSEA is the 21st International Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition. OSEA has been successfully established for more than forty years. Every year, OSEA has thousands of professional exhibitors joining this great event from forty-eight countries. The 2016 OSEA conference and exhibition is estimated to have more than 16,000 attendees joining and share brilliant opinions on the oil and gas industry newly development and successful experiences.
