GN Solids Control manufactures 9 inch, 14inch, 18inch and 20 inch decanter centrifuges. GN centrifuges are widely used for various solids and liquid separation areas, for example, industrial water, oil and gas drill cuttings, soil remediation, construction slurry etc.
All the workers must know how to operate centrifuge as different working parameters need to be adjusted which obviously affect the separating result. And know how to do some maintenance is also pretty important, here are 2 cases for reference:
1. The main motor belt alignment is not good. There is minor offset between the pulley on the gearbox and motor pulley. The motor pulley contacts the belt guard, because it is offset. Do you have any suggestion as to how we can fix this alignment?
Offset is a problem that we cannot ignore, as belt alignment will cause issues with the bearings or belts. This might happen when the centrifuge transported by long time transport without proper secure, but it’s very easy to adjust. Please check the following drawing for the motor position. Loose the 4 bolts (in red circle) under the main motor, and adjust the 2 bolts (in red rectangular) to adjust the position of the motor so you will have a better alignment.
2. We are having trouble locating a local supplier of SKF LGHP 2 grease for GN decanter centrifuge. Are there any other types of grease that are permitted to be used for the main bearings? Also, it seems like the greasing quantity is very high; about 270 grams for each bearing every 8 hours. The manual says that the grease amount should be 2/3 of the tank. Does this mean 2/3 of a 400 ml grease cartridge?
Some other grease can be used as long as they are suit for high speed working condition. Please DO make sure to use famous brands grease as the bearings are key components of the centrifuge.
Due to the high rotating speed of the bearing, the grease will lose a little every day, regularly lubricating helps to protect the SKF bearings. But I don’t think there is a large needing volume of the grease, only 25g and 86g for the small end and large end bearings, which is 111g for 2 bearings in every 8 hours. The reason amount is 1/3, which is also filled by our engineer when leave factory, you just need to add a little bit every day.

GN Solids usually don’t provide 3 phase treating decanter centrifuge as the working efficiency is pretty slow. And the price of GN decanter centrifuge is almost 3 times of one 2 phase centrifuge. Actually, most customers will still need one 2 phase coarse centrifuge in the front. So there we recommend our customer to use 2 sets GNLW553-VFD (22inch rotating bowl): coarse centrifuge and polish centrifuge. Just need to add another oil and water separator. So the whole treating system is more cost-effective.
GN Decanter Centrifuge and GN Cuttings Dryer
GN Solids Control has manufactured thousands of solids control equipment include decanter centrifuges. Now GN customers from over seventy countries are using GN centrifuges.
Today we looked through those former inquires we got from our customers, they are still pretty valuable to share with you. Here is one example:
1)For the GNLW363CG centrifuge, please have the 3 pulley system installed. Please let me know the rotational speed for high, medium and low when you can. I have the gear ratio recorded. We will take the centrifuges with the standard motors and control panels if they meet spec. item 2 to follow.
Recommend you to choose Speed: 1800/2500/3200 RPM.
2) For any motors we do order, 60Hz, USA standard voltages, ICE-Ex (d)(e)(i)(nA) .
We can use motors with 460V/60HZ and to meet IEC Ex and Explosion proof Mark is Exd IIB T4 which meets the oil gas industry for international standard. Please comment if it is acceptable by you? We can even have the UL Ex Motors, but for Control Panel if you need UL we’ll have to source from US or Canada.
Here are several questions and answers on cuttings dryer:
Air Knife design will need to be determined later. Please send us some photos and descriptions, we can put it in our Dryer. Some other customers also have given us some concepts.
1) Can you supply JUST the motor conforming to 60Hz, USA voltage, ICE-Ex (d)(e)(i)(nA) capable of variable speeds WITHOUT the electronic drive and control system for the GNCD930 and still meet customer’s delivery schedule?
It will be 60 Days for GNCD900 to be ready for shipment. While right now, GN Solids have the cuttings dryers stocking in Houston warehouse.
2) Can you supply motors conforming to 60Hz, USA voltages, ICE-Ex (d)(e)(i)(nA) capable of variable speeds WITHOUT the electronic drive and control system to the GNG30-75 and still meet delivery schedule? It will be 45 Days for manufacturing.
GN Trailer Mounted Dredge Dewatering System
GN Solids Control has been provided many dredge dewatering systems for global customers. Based on the move methods, GN dredge dewatering system is classified into the following 2 types: skid mounted treating system and trailer mounted treating system.
Just take example of one trailer mounted treating system provided to customer, the following shows questions that customers are interested:
1. Total power requirement at most likely and max load for determining power generator requirements.
GN Solids provides ‘GN Equipment Power List’. All the listed components are controlled by GN control boxes. You might need to prepare a distribution center and connect them to GN control boxes.
2. System dead load and axel load (ESAL).
’35ton 2axle LOW BED’, whole dead load can hold up to 35T, axel load is 21T.
3. Is it possible to get the transporting height of each trailer below 14 ft so we wouldn’t require to permit the transport of this system in Texas?
We can decrease the height below 14ft. As there is no separated compartment, so there’s no pump cavitation. #1 tank and #2 tank they are connected by overflow, as long as the #2 tank liquid discharged port higher than centrifugal pump inlet port, there will be no cavitation as long as #2 tank has fluid inside.
4. Does GN have any clients that use conveyor systems to move the dredge material away from the trailers, or do they just use bucket loaders to move it on the fly?
It depends, some of GN customers using screw conveyors while some of them use bucket loaders. Screw conveyor can be used to transport to a truck directly, while the bucket loaders can be replaced with another one and also move easily.
5. Max pump pressure and pressure system weak points.
Max pressure 0.5Mpa, there’s no pressure weak points as the whole system pressure is less than 1.0Mpa, actually they are not pressure pipe system.
6. Details on pressure safety system such as pop-off valves and other PSVs.
This system has on and off valves, centrifugal pump inlet and mud cleaner inlet both controlled by valves. There’re no pressure control components inside as this is not a pressure system.
GN Soil Washing Treating Unit
As a turn-key solids control system provider, GN Solids Control provides various whole treating units that can be widely used in various of industries. During the past half years, GN Solids Control have received more inquires on oil slurry or soil remediation treating. Today, we would like to share some info on the soil washing or soil remediation treating unit. GN Solids Control provides shake shakers as the first treating unit so large solids can be separated out. After treated by shale shaker:
1. Slurry Pump
The Slurry Pump should be over sized. Model GNSB4X3A-11J. It will feed the Decanter centrifuge.
2. 14 Inch Decanter
The 14 inch decanter will remove the small micron soil that wasn’t removed at the GN shale shaker in the first phase treatment. GN Solids Control provides whole centrifuge treating unit includes a stand, solids screw conveyor, centrifuge tank, etc. Model GNLW364D-VFD
3. Chemical Dosing Equipment
Chemical Dosing Equipment. Model GNDU-2000A. This will help centrifuge to separate out those finer solids. Usually, centrifuge can only separate out solids larger than 10 microns just by using mechanical separating method.
4. Inclined Plate Clarifier
GN Inclined Plate Clarifier is used to separate those solids after treated by centrifuge. Centrifuge treated slurry will run into the clarifier by gravity.
5. Oil Water Separator
An oil/ water separator will be used to separate oil and water. This will be added based on the how much oil contains in the final liquid.
6. 9 Inch Decanter
9 Inch Decanter Model GNLW224D. Sludge from the bottom of the Inclined Plate Clarifier can be dewatered by using GN mini centrifuge. Running parameters can be adjusted based on the feeding sludge.
Some sets of soil remediation units have already been used in Middle East, Africa and North America.
GN Soil Remediation System
GN Solids Control is a solids and liquid separation system turn-key provider. This year, GN Solids Control has provided 3 sets of large soil remediation system. Basically, one GN Soil Remediation System is including the following components:
1. GN Feeding Hopper
A large feeding hopper will be used to catch the soil slurry first. GN Solids use steep side angle walls so that wet and sticky soil falls to the bottom of the hopper easily. Across the top of the hopper, a bar grate to keep large, oversize material from entering the hopper and plugging the hopper.
2. GN Screw conveyor
GN screw conveyor transports the soil from the bottom of the hopper to the Shale Shaker Screener. Screw conveyor should be the proper angle and length to empty the soil feed hopper and discharge on to the Shale Shaker Screener.
3. GN Shale Shaker
GN Shale Shaker will remove gravel and stones and oversize debris. Different size screens will be assembled on the shaker. High pressure water spray nozzles are fixed on the shaker deck in order to wash the soil through the screens. The Shale Shaker is positioned on top of a mixing tank. Usually, GN Hi-G force shaker GNZS594 will be used to treat the slurry. Vibration motors are using USA martin or Italy OLI.
4. GN Mixing Tank
The mixing tank should be approximately 7000 liters. It needs a robust, strong mixer. It needs steam coil piping in the interior of the tank to heat the soil slurry. Operating temperature is normally 70 C.
5. GN Slurry Pump
The Slurry Pump should be a centrifugal pump. It will transfer the soil slurry from the mix tank to the following treating equipment.

1. GN 22inch Centrifuge

GN 22 inch centrifuge is using duplex stainless steel 2205 (or stainless steel 2304). In order to have a good wear resistance, GN Solids Control is using tungsten carbide tiles and fixed them along the screw propeller. Solids discharge ports are also protected by tungsten carbide inserts or special ceramic.
On the two ends of the centrifuge, GN Solids Control is using genuine SKF bearing, which is easy to get in North America.
2. GN 14inch Centrifuge
14inch centrifuge is the most common used centrifuge for slurry separating. Treating volume is around 130GPM.
These 2 centrifuges will be used to treat the waste water or soiled slurry. GN Solids decanter centrifuges can also be used to treat oil and gas drilling waste, industrial water treating, hrdro-vac wastes etc.
