As drilling activities continue to expand across Africa, the demand for large-capacity drilling fluid infrastructure is growing rapidly. To support efficient drilling operations and centralized mud management, GN Solids Control has successfully completed the shipment of a 10,000 BBL Liquid Mud Plant to an African customer. Designed with operational efficiency, flexibility, and environmental responsibility in mind, the project demonstrates GN’s capability to deliver comprehensive drilling fluid solutions for large-scale oil and gas developments.
The newly shipped liquid mud plant serves as a centralized facility for drilling fluid storage, mixing, transfer, and management. With a total capacity of 10,000 barrels, the system is capable of supporting multiple drilling operations while ensuring a stable supply of drilling fluids throughout the project lifecycle.
One of the key advantages of the plant is its smart modular design. The system is divided into multiple tanks, each with a capacity of approximately 750 BBL. This modular configuration offers significant benefits during transportation and installation. Individual tank modules can be shipped more efficiently, reducing logistics complexity and lowering transportation costs. Once on site, the modules can be assembled quickly while maintaining a relatively small footprint compared to traditional large-scale mud storage facilities.
To ensure long-term durability under demanding field conditions, GN applied a special anti-corrosion coating system throughout the plant. The coating is designed to withstand both water-based mud (WBM) and oil-based mud (OBM) applications, helping extend equipment service life while reducing maintenance requirements. This feature is particularly valuable in harsh environments where drilling fluids may contain corrosive components.
The project also incorporates integrated MCC (Motor Control Center) units and pump skids, enabling centralized operation and efficient fluid transfer management. Through remote monitoring and control functions, operators can manage pumping, circulation, and storage activities more effectively, improving overall site efficiency and reducing manual intervention. This intelligent control approach enhances operational reliability while simplifying day-to-day management.
Beyond drilling fluid storage, the facility is equipped with an oil-based cuttings treatment system, further strengthening its environmental performance. By treating oil-contaminated drilling cuttings, the system helps recover valuable drilling fluids while reducing waste volumes and supporting compliance with increasingly stringent environmental regulations. This combination of productivity and environmental responsibility makes the plant an ideal solution for modern drilling operations.
The successful delivery of this project highlights GN’s expertise in providing complete drilling fluid management systems. From liquid mud plants and solids control systems to drilling waste treatment technologies, GN offers integrated solutions that support the entire drilling process.
As oil and gas operators continue seeking safer, smarter, and more sustainable operations, GN remains committed to delivering innovative technologies that improve efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
GN offers total drilling fluid solutions: mud stations, solids control systems, and cuttings treatment technologies for drilling projects worldwide.
