GN Containerized Oil Sludge Treatment Plant for Africa Client

As environmental regulations become increasingly stringent and energy companies seek more sustainable waste management solutions, oil sludge treatment has become a critical part of modern oilfield and refinery operations. To support these requirements, GN Solids Control recently completed the delivery of a Containerized Oil Sludge Treatment Plant for a client in Africa, providing an efficient and compact solution for oil recovery, water recycling, and solids reduction.

Oil sludge is typically generated from crude oil tank cleaning, refinery waste treatment, and drilling operations. This complex mixture of oil, water, and solids presents both environmental and economic challenges. Rather than treating sludge as waste, modern treatment technologies focus on recovering valuable resources while minimizing disposal volumes.

The newly delivered system is based on GN’s proven oil sludge treatment technology and features a fully containerized and modular design. By integrating the treatment process into containerized modules, the plant offers easier transportation, faster installation, and greater flexibility for projects located in remote areas of Africa. This compact design significantly reduces site preparation requirements while ensuring reliable field operation.

The system consists of four major process modules that work together to maximize oil recovery efficiency.

The first stage is the Pre-Mixing and Heating Module, where raw sludge is heated and mixed with water and treatment chemicals. Heating the sludge to an optimized temperature reduces viscosity and improves the separation process. This step creates a homogeneous slurry suitable for downstream processing.

After conditioning, the slurry enters the Screening Module, where a shale shaker removes larger solid particles. By separating coarse solids at an early stage, the system protects downstream equipment and improves overall processing efficiency.

The heart of the plant is the Three-Phase Decanter Centrifuge Module. Operating at high centrifugal force, the centrifuge continuously separates the feed stream into three valuable outputs: recovered oil, reusable water, and discharged solids. This process enables operators to recover resources that would otherwise be lost while significantly reducing waste disposal volumes.
To further optimize separation performance, the plant includes a Chemical Dosing Module that precisely injects demulsifiers and other treatment chemicals into the process stream. Proper chemical conditioning enhances oil-water separation and improves overall recovery efficiency.

The successful delivery of this containerized oil sludge treatment plant highlights GN’s capability to provide integrated environmental solutions for global customers. With extensive project experience across oilfields, refineries, and tank cleaning applications, GN continues helping clients recover valuable resources, reduce environmental impact, and achieve more sustainable operations.

As demand for efficient waste management solutions grows across Africa and other emerging markets, GN Solids remains committed to delivering innovative separation technologies that transform waste into value while supporting environmental responsibility worldwide.
