Drilling Mud Centrifugal Pump and Shear Pump for Europe Client

GN Solids Control has completed a new equipment delivery to a European drilling service company, supplying a set of high-efficiency drilling mud centrifugal pumps and shear pumps designed for mud transfer, circulation, and rapid mixing operations. This project reflects the growing adoption of GN’s advanced pumping technology across Europe, where operators are increasingly focused on improving mud quality, reducing equipment downtime, and optimizing the total cost of ownership.

For this project, the client required a pumping solution capable of operating under harsh drilling conditions, handling abrasive fluids, and ensuring precise flow performance for downstream solids control equipment. GN’s engineering team selected the GNSB Series centrifugal pump as the core transfer unit. Built with a hardened, wear-resistant pump casing, high chrome alloy components, and a robust mechanical seal, the GNSB pump is well suited for continuous operation in challenging drilling mud environments.

One of the advantages emphasized by the European client is GN’s fully interchangeable design. The GNSB pump shares common dimensions with major global pump models, enabling convenient replacement of parts and seamless integration into existing mud systems. This compatibility minimizes spare parts inventory and reduces long-term maintenance cost — a non-negotiable requirement for many European drilling operators working under strict cost-efficiency guidelines.

Complementing the transfer pump, GN also supplied the GNJQB Series shear pump, which plays a critical role in drilling mud preparation. The shear pump is engineered to break down bentonite and polymers rapidly, significantly improving hydration and ensuring uniform mud properties. Unlike standard centrifugal pumps, the GN shear pump produces a powerful shearing effect that enhances fluid structure, stabilizes gel strength, and shortens mud mixing time.
For drilling contractors, optimized mud mixing directly translates into better wellbore stability, reduced chemical usage, and more consistent drilling performance. With environmental regulations tightening across Europe, the ability to reduce additives without compromising mud performance is a major operational advantage.

Before shipment, all equipment underwent GN’s comprehensive quality inspection, including:
mechanical seal performance testing
flow curve verification
casing pressure endurance tests
motor safety and electrical reliability checks
dynamic balancing for impellers
This stringent testing ensures each pump performs reliably in the field and meets European compliance requirements. The equipment is provided with CE certification, making it suitable for both onshore and offshore operations.

Another important aspect of this project is GN’s engineering support. GN worked closely with the client to review the mud system arrangement, recommend optimized pump configurations, and ensure correct alignment of inlet/outlet pipelines. This engineering cooperation helped the client reduce installation time and avoid future operational issues.

GN Solids Control continues to strengthen its presence in Europe by providing technologically advanced, cost-effective, and durable pumping solutions. With decades of experience in solids control and fluid management equipment, GN remains a trusted partner for drilling companies seeking reliable mud treatment technologies.
