GN Shale Shaker and Mud Cleaner for offshore drilling platform

GN Solids Control, a leading manufacturer of solids and liquid separation equipment, has successfully delivered a complete set of shale shaker and mud cleaner systems for an offshore drilling platform project. Designed to meet the challenging requirements of offshore operations, these units will play a vital role in improving the efficiency and environmental compliance of the drilling mud treatment process.

Reliable Solids Control Equipment for Offshore Demands
Offshore drilling platforms present a unique set of challenges—limited space, strict safety regulations, and continuous operation requirements. GN Solids Control shale shaker and mud cleaner were selected for this project due to their compact footprint, high performance, and robust offshore design standards. The equipment was specially configured for harsh marine environments, offering corrosion-resistant components and explosion-proof control systems.

GN Shale Shaker – First Line of Defense
At the core of the system is GNZS594K high G-force linear motion shale shaker, which efficiently separates large solids from the drilling fluids. With its four-panel screen design and adjustable vibration intensity, it can process high flow rates while ensuring effective cuttings removal. GN’s patented quick screen replacement system also minimizes downtime, a critical factor in 24/7 offshore operations.
The shale shaker is designed to meet Zone 1 or Zone 2 hazardous area standards and is fully compliant with offshore certification requirements such as ATEX and IECEx. Its durable stainless steel deck, oil-based corrosion protection, and marine-grade finish make it ideal for salt-rich offshore environments.

GN Mud Cleaner – Integrated Desander and Desilter
Following the shaker, GN’s mud cleaner unit combines desander and desilter hydrocyclones mounted on a fine screen underflow shaker. This integrated system further refines the drilling mud by removing particles down to 20 microns, significantly reducing wear on downstream equipment and improving mud reuse efficiency.
The hydrocyclones are made from abrasion-resistant polyurethane and are field-adjustable to suit different drilling conditions. The dual-function design—shaker + hydrocyclones—ensures both space-saving installation and performance optimization.

System Benefits and Customer Feedback
The offshore client praised the system for its reliability and easy maintenance. GN’s modular design allows fast assembly and minimal operator intervention. Additionally, the explosion-proof electric control system enables safe and precise operation, even in extreme offshore working environments.
By deploying GN’s solids control equipment, the offshore drilling platform can expect:
Reduced environmental discharge and waste volumes.
Extended life of drilling mud, lowering costs.
Enhanced protection of downstream centrifugal pumps and mud agitators.

This project demonstrates GN Solids Control’s continued commitment to supporting offshore oil and gas operations with high-performance, safety-compliant equipment. Whether for shallow water, deep water, or jack-up rigs, GN provides complete solids control solutions tailored to offshore needs.
