GN Solids Control has recently completed the delivery of three customized mud desilter systems for an offshore oilfield project in South America. Designed to meet the demanding requirements of offshore drilling, these systems provide high-efficiency solids control within a compact, transportable footprint that fits perfectly into the platform’s limited space.
Each mud desilter package includes a hydrocyclone desilter, a bottom shale shaker, and a mud tank assembly. The system is engineered to handle fine solids separation, removing particles down to 15 microns from the drilling fluid. This ensures the mud’s viscosity and density remain within optimal parameters, which is critical for maintaining drilling stability and preventing equipment wear.
To accommodate offshore transport and installation constraints, GN’s engineers developed a modular design where the desilter assembly can be placed inside the mud tank for shipment. This innovative configuration minimizes space usage during logistics and reduces offshore installation time. Upon arrival at the platform, the units can be quickly assembled and connected to the existing mud circulation system, significantly accelerating the project’s commissioning process.
The hydrocyclones used in the desilter are made of high-grade polyurethane, providing excellent resistance to wear and corrosion while maintaining consistent separation efficiency. The bottom shaker, equipped with GN’s linear motion vibrating deck and high-strength composite frame screens, delivers powerful solids removal with reduced fluid loss. This combination guarantees long-term, stable operation even under heavy load conditions.
The mud tanks are designed for offshore use, featuring marine-grade steel construction and anti-corrosion epoxy coating, ensuring long service life and safety in marine environments. Each tank includes all necessary accessories—lighting, walkways, handrails, and ladders—complying with offshore operation standards.
