GN Solids Control has successfully delivered three packages of hydraulic drive mini centrifuge units designed specifically for diamond core drilling operations. This project demonstrates GN’s ability to provide compact, flexible, and energy-efficient solids control solutions for drilling sites where electrical power availability is limited or operating conditions are highly variable.
Diamond core drilling is widely used in mineral exploration and geotechnical investigations, often conducted in remote locations with challenging terrain. In such environments, conventional electrically driven centrifuges can face limitations related to power supply, safety, and mobility. To overcome these challenges, GN engineered a hydraulic drive solution that offers reliable performance, flexible speed control, and excellent adaptability to field conditions.

The core feature of this system is its hydraulic drive configuration. A diesel-powered hydraulic power unit supplies pressurized hydraulic oil to the hydraulic motor, which in turn directly drives the decanter centrifuge. This setup eliminates the need for electric motors, variable frequency drives, and complex electrical infrastructure, making the system ideal for remote or off-grid drilling projects.
By using a hydraulic motor to drive the centrifuge bowl and screw, operators can achieve smooth torque transmission and stable rotation, even under fluctuating feed conditions. Hydraulic drive systems are particularly well suited for handling variable solids loading, which is common in diamond core drilling where formation properties can change rapidly.
Each mini centrifuge unit is designed with a compact footprint, allowing easy transportation and quick installation at drilling sites with limited space. Despite its small size, the centrifuge delivers efficient separation of fine solids from drilling fluids, helping maintain fluid quality and reduce waste volumes. Cleaner drilling fluids can be reused in the drilling process, lowering water consumption and minimizing environmental impact.
Another advantage of the hydraulic drive system is its simple and robust control. Centrifuge speed and torque can be adjusted by regulating hydraulic flow and pressure, providing operators with precise control over separation performance. This flexibility allows the system to adapt to different drilling depths, fluid viscosities, and solids concentrations without complex electrical adjustments.

Reliability is a key requirement in diamond core drilling operations, where equipment downtime can lead to significant project delays. The hydraulic-driven centrifuge units are built with heavy-duty components and wear-resistant materials to withstand abrasive solids and continuous operation. The simplified mechanical and hydraulic structure also reduces maintenance requirements, making the system well suited for long-term field use.
By supplying three complete hydraulic drive mini centrifuge packages, GN provides a scalable solution that can support multiple drilling rigs or different project phases simultaneously. The modular design allows each unit to operate independently, giving contractors greater flexibility in equipment deployment and project planning.
This project once again highlights GN Solids Control’s commitment to delivering practical, application-oriented solutions for specialized drilling markets. Through innovative hydraulic drive technology, GN helps diamond core drilling contractors improve solids control efficiency, reduce operational constraints, and achieve reliable performance in demanding environments.
