GN Solids Control has successfully delivered nine sets of drilling mud vacuum degassers to a European client, supporting safe and efficient drilling fluid management across multiple operations. This project highlights GN’s capability to provide reliable gas removal solutions tailored to the strict performance and safety requirements of the European market.
In drilling operations, the presence of gas in drilling fluid can significantly affect system stability and safety. Entrained gases such as methane or air reduce mud density, disrupt hydrostatic pressure balance, and may lead to serious well control risks. Effective degassing is therefore essential to maintain proper drilling conditions and protect both equipment and personnel.

The GN vacuum degasser is designed to efficiently remove harmful gases from drilling fluids using a vacuum-based separation process. By creating a negative pressure environment inside the vessel, dissolved and free gases are separated from the mud and discharged safely. The degassed fluid is then returned to the circulation system with restored density and improved stability.
One of the key advantages of GN vacuum degassers is their ability to operate continuously with high efficiency. The system can handle large volumes of gas-cut mud while maintaining stable performance, making it suitable for both onshore and offshore drilling applications. The equipment is typically installed downstream of shale shakers, ensuring that the drilling fluid entering subsequent solids control equipment is free of gas interference.
For this European project, all nine units were manufactured with high-quality materials and robust structural design, ensuring durability under demanding operating conditions. The degassers are equipped with reliable vacuum pumps, efficient gas-liquid separation chambers, and optimized internal structures to maximize degassing performance while minimizing energy consumption.
Ease of operation and maintenance is another important feature. GN vacuum degassers are designed with simple control systems and accessible components, allowing operators to perform routine inspections and maintenance with minimal effort. This reduces downtime and helps maintain continuous drilling operations, which is critical for project efficiency.
In addition to performance, GN places strong emphasis on safety and compliance. The vacuum degassers supplied for this project are designed to meet international standards and can be configured to comply with European safety requirements, including options for explosion-proof electrical components when required.

Before shipment, all nine vacuum degassers underwent strict factory testing, including mechanical inspection, vacuum performance testing, and operational checks. This ensures that each unit is ready for reliable operation upon installation at the client’s site.
The successful delivery of these nine sets of drilling mud vacuum degassers demonstrates GN Solids Control’s growing presence in the European market and its ability to provide essential solids control equipment for safe drilling operations. By effectively removing gas from drilling fluids, GN degassers help improve drilling efficiency, enhance safety, and reduce operational risks.
